Howdy! I'm Jason McEachen, a seasoned senior software engineer with a passion for writing quality code, implementing automation solutions, creating highly available digital services, and finding ways to have fun while doing it. Like a magic 8-ball head on the front of my website. My career is driven by a fervent passion for chasing technological innovation and finding ways to seamlessly integrate smart solutions in my everyday life. I make things that make my life fun and easier.
My current projects:
Drupal 10 sites: Making them, migrating other sites to them, seeing what I can do with them.
RaspberryPI computers: Things like helpful MagicMirror2 displays around the home to keep me informed and entertained, k3s clusters to handle lots of day to day fun projects, and weather reporting IOT devices.
Arduino IoT devices and integrations: They monitor my garden, animate the lights on the front of my house, or drive my jet-powered pinewood derby car to victory!
You may know me from one of these cool things:
- Writing computer games for Mac, PC Dos and Windows.
- Building a Windows95 programs to monitor CokePuter inventory and purchase history exposed via the web.
- My work on the original Experience Music Project - Sound Lab instrument interactive exhibits.
- Developing tools to keep our embassies, military installations, and power grids safe.
- Making it easier for network hardware programmers to test their changes under real world loads.
- Upgrading an Alaska web site to a highly resilient platform that could handle the traffic of the 49th state's premiere News source.
- A system for year round lights on my house that change color in the season, and send morse code messages to the stars.
I'm proud that work I've delivered often continues to be used for eight or more years with only maintenance updates or new features being added.
I always want to learn new technology, and enjoy finding fun ways to test what I've learned - like putting a Monty Python inspired magic eight ball block on a website - ask me a question with the button below!
